Terms of Service

Welcome to ZapJot, your personal digital journal and planning companion. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our mobile and web applications, website, and all related services (collectively, the "Services").

By creating an account or accessing the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use ZapJot.

1. Eligibility & Use

To use ZapJot, you must be at least 13 years old. By using the Services, you confirm that:

  • You provide accurate and current account information.
  • You are solely responsible for all content you create or upload.
  • You will use the Services in a lawful, respectful, and non-abusive manner.

2. Your Content & Rights

ZapJot empowers you to create and manage personal content such as journals, planners, tasks, characters, goals, and reminders.

  • You Own Your Content: You retain all rights and ownership of the content you create.
  • Private by Default: All content is private unless you explicitly choose to share it.
  • End-to-End Encrypted Journals: Your journal entries are encrypted locally using AES encryption before being stored. Only you can decrypt them.

ZapJot cannot access your encrypted journal content under any circumstance.

3. Account & Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account, including credentials used with Firebase Authentication (email/password, OAuth, etc.).

  • Your encryption key is securely stored in Firestore, encrypted with a key derived from your authentication credentials.
  • If you lose access to your account (e.g., email or OAuth access is revoked), you may permanently lose access to your encrypted journal content.
  • ZapJot does not store your unencrypted encryption key and cannot recover it for you.

Please use a secure and recoverable login method to avoid permanent data loss.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree to use the Services in a responsible and ethical manner. You must not:

  • Use the Services for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purpose.
  • Distribute or upload content that is malicious, harmful, or violates any laws.
  • Interfere with or attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or disrupt the platform or its security.
  • Infringe on any intellectual property rights.

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action, including suspension or termination, if you violate this policy.

5. Termination of Service

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Services if:

  • You violate these Terms.
  • Your use of the Services poses a legal risk or harms the platform or other users.
  • You engage in fraud, abuse, or misconduct.

You may also delete your account at any time through the app or by contacting us.

6. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally to reflect updates in our practices, services, or legal requirements. When changes are made:

  • The “Effective Date” will be updated.
  • We’ll notify you of significant changes, typically through the app or email (if provided).

Your continued use of the Services after changes indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.

7. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

ZapJot is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. While we strive to offer a secure and reliable experience, we disclaim all warranties to the extent permitted by law.

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including data loss caused by forgotten credentials or failure to maintain account access.
  • Use of the Services is at your own risk.

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of our local jurisdiction, unless otherwise specified by applicable law.
